On the occasion of the 7th edition of the Festival of Contemporary Literature
Bologna in Lettere
the Organizing Committee
with the collaboration of Marco Saya Edizioni, Millenium Gallery
announces the 5th edition of the
“Bologna in Lettere Award” for published and unpublished contemporary poetry

Everybody can participate in the contest starting from September 8, 2018.
The submission deadline is January 15, 2019.
In order to facilitate the work of the judges and to avoid possible errors,
the authors are encouraged not to send their works in the last few days available.
Unpublished writings are evaluated on an anonymous basis.
The judges’ evaluation is unquestionable and irrevocable.

The author hereby declares to have read and accepted the contest announcement in every detail and the modes of participation. For those who participate in Categories B and C: The author declares that his/her work is unpublished (any work that has not been published in a paper edition is considered unpublished). The work can participate in other contests during the same period, but in case it receives other prizes or awards, it cannot be published (neither in a monograph nor in an anthology) before the contest results are officially announced (for Category B, whose prize consists in the publication, any work that has already been published – even partially – will be disqualified). The author guarantees, under his/her own responsibility, the eligibility of the work. He/she declares that the work is his/her own, has been composed by him/herself and does not infringe any third party’s intellectual property right, thus releasing the Award organizing committee from any liability. The author agrees to the processing of his/her personal data (D.L. N°196/2003). Personal data will be used for the sole purpose of the present Award and for communications about the Festival’s cultural and artistic activities.

CONTEST CATEGORIES
The Award consists of 5 categories
Category A – Published Works
Category B – Unpublished Collections
Category C – Unpublished Single Poems
Category D – Oral Poetry
Category E – Visual Poetry & Asemic Writing
ELIGIBLE WORKS
CATEGORY A (Published Works)
Long poems and collected poems published from 2014 to 2018. Texts in languages other than Italian (or vernacular poems) are accepted provided they come with an Italian translation.
CATEGORY B (Unpublished Collections)
Unpublished long poems and collected poems. Texts in languages other than Italian (or vernacular poems) are accepted provided they come with an Italian translation.
CATEGORY C (Unpublished Single Poems)
From a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 3 unpublished poems. Texts in languages other than Italian (or vernacular poems) are accepted provided they come with an Italian translation.
CATEGORY D (Oral Poetry)
An audio file, in Mp3 format, of up to 3 minutes. Only pieces performed with voice only – without musical accompaniment and/or sounds – will be accepted.
CATEGORY E (Visual Poetry & Asemic Writing)
From 1 to 3 works, in high resolution jpg format.
CONDITIONS
CATEGORY A (Published Works)
Every author and/or publisher is requested to send a Word file or a pdf file plus a paper copy of the work.
CATEGORY B (Unpublished Collections)
Every author is requested to send only one Word file or pdf file. The texts should be unpublished, i.e. never published in a paper edition. Texts that have only been published on the web are considered unpublished. Minimum length: 30 pages – Maximum length: 50/60 pages.
CATEGORY C (Unpublished Single Poems)
Every author is requested to send only one Word file or pdf file: the texts should be unpublished, i.e. never published in a paper edition. Texts that have only been published on the web are considered unpublished. Maximum number: 3 single poems. Maximum length: 50 lines (for each poem).
CATEGORY D (Oral Poetry)
Every author is requested to send one audio file, in Mp3 format. The texts may be published or unpublished. Maximum length: 3 minutes.
CATEGORY E (Visual Poetry & Asemic Writing)
Every author is requested to send only one file, in high resolution jpg format, for each work submitted to the contest.

PRIZES
CATEGORY A – PUBLISHED WORKS
The panel of judges will select 6 finalists and the winner will be chosen among them. The winner will receive a prize money. All finalists will receive an award certificate and their works will be introduced with a critical comment during the awards ceremony in the month of May 2019.
CATEGORY B – UNPUBLISHED COLLECTIONS
The panel of judges will select 6 finalists and the winner will be chosen among them. The winner will be awarded the free publication of the work by Marco Saya Edizioni. The winning work will be introduced with a critical comment during the awards ceremony. Some extracts of the works from the second to the sixth place will be collected in an e-book including an information box and a critical comment which will be published online on the issuu platform and will be available for free download on the festival website. All finalists will receive an award certificate and will be introduced with a critical comment during the awards ceremony in the month of May 2019.
CATEGORY C – UNPUBLISHED SINGLE POEMS
The panel of judges will select 6 finalists and the winner will be chosen among them. The winner will receive a prize money. All finalists from second to sixth place will receive an award certificate and their works will be introduced with a critical comment during the awards ceremony in the month of May 2019.
CATEGORY D – ORAL POETRY
The panel of judges will select 8 finalists that will be invited to perform their poem live during the month of May 2019. The winner will be announced during the event and will be awarded a prize money.
CATEGORY E – VISUAL POETRY & ASEMIC WRITING
The panel of judges will select 3 winners, whose works will be on display for one week in a dedicated exhibition in the course of the festival’s events in the month of May at the Millenium Gallery in Via Riva di Reno 77/A. The winning works will also be published in the Utsanga magazine of experimental languages and criticism.
OTHER AWARDS
For the categories A-B-C the judges reserve the right to award a series of special mentions to the most remarkable works. The mentioned authors will receive an award certificate and will be invited to participate in the collective reading inaugurating the following season of events (September/October 2019). The president of the panels of judges furthermore reserves the right to directly assign one or more special awards for each category. The winners of the special awards will receive an award certificate and will be introduced with a critical comment in the course of the abovementioned reading.
ENTRY FEES
In order to cover part of the management costs, the Award has set the following participation fees:
Category A – Published Works – 10 euros
Category B – Unpublished Collections – 15 euros
Category C – Unpublished Single Poems – 15 euros
Category D – Oral Poetry – 15 euros
Category E – Visual Poetry & Asemic writing – 15 euros
The fee for participating in 2 categories is 20 euros. The fee for participating in 3 categories is 30 euros. The fee for participating in 4 categories is 35 euros. The fee for participating in 4 categories is 40 euros.
Publishers wishing to submit more than one work to the contest are invited to directly address the administrative office of the Award for information about facilitated participation arrangements.

RESULTS
The results of the contest will be announced by April 10, 2019 on the website of Bologna in Lettere, on the Festival facebook page and through several online channels.
The awards ceremony will take place in the month of May 2019, on a date still to be determined.
